Hair Removal by Soprano®
Today, laser technology is the most popular and effective method for beautifying the body through hair removal. Its use is replacing electrolysis, which is often very time-consuming and inefficient, and waxing, shaving, and depilatory creams, which have only temporary results. Lasers are specifically designed to destroy many hairs in a short time, with little chance of complications, and their effects are permanent in most subjects.
This treatment works when lasers emit infrared energy into the skin and is absorbed by its target, be it an unwanted blood vessel, birthmark, tattoo, or in this case, hair. The laser used in hair removal targets the melanin (colour) in the hair follicle, damaging the follicle and removing the hair.
Laser hair removal is safe for use on all parts of the body including the face, back, underarms, bikini line, legs and arms. It treats large areas at one time, and a unique computer-guided scanning system automates the process, ensuring that skin is rapidly and evenly treated in a safe, fast, effective and gentle way.
Does it work for all skin types?
It is very good for lighter skin types, and it is the best option for darker skin types because of the relatively low absorption of this laser light by melanin. Also, the ability to safely treat sun-tanned skin makes this an excellent choice for active and athletic people. Laser hair removal works best when the hair is 1 to 2 millimetres in length.
Is the treatment permanent?
Each treatment will result in some permanent hair loss, so in most cases, total hair removal can only be achieved after multiple treatments, depending on individual responses and the amount of hair to be removed. The individual’s goal may not be total hair removal, and as with other treatments for unwanted hair, there is no guarantee that hair removal will be permanent in all areas that are treated.
How many treatments will I need?
Since there are three phases of hair growth – anagen, catagen, and telogen – only hairs in the active growth phase, anagen, can be successfully treated. You may need 3 to 5 treatments at approximately 5 to 8 week intervals to achieve optimal results.
How long will it take for my skin to heal?
Normally the skin appears red and slightly swollen for 48 hours, or possibly longer in some cases. Our doctor can test a small area initially, and occasionally, guests might develop a blistering reaction. If this happens, consult our doctor and request specific post-treatment options. There is a low risk of pigmentary changes which you can discuss with our doctor prior to treatment.
Does the treatment hurt?
You may not need any anaesthesia for your treatment, which most guests describe as “prickly”. After treatment, it might feel like strong sunburn, and discomfort levels will depend on the area being treated. Usually, no specific after-care is needed.
