Let’s Celebrate Chinese New Year at The Haven of Life!
Chinese New Year or Spring Festival is the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays. It is often called the Lunar New Year. The festival traditionally begins on the first day of the first month in the Chinese calendar and ends on the 15th; this day is called Lantern Festival. Chinese New Year’s Eve, known as Chúxī, literally means “Year-pass Eve”. On this eve, supper is a feast with families. Food will range from pigs, to ducks, to chicken and sweet delicacies. The family will end the night with firecrackers. In the Chinese New Year tradition themes of “happiness”, “wealth”, and “longevity” are popular. In 2012, the Chinese Lunar Year Festival will start on the 03rd of February and welcome the year of the Rabbit. At Chiva-Som we celebrate with a healthy Chinese New Year’s Dinner and put on a show of traditional Lion dance. Below are pictures for last year’s event at Chiva-Som.
