Songkran festival

Songkran means ‘water festival’ and takes place from April 13-15 every year. It is the Thai New Year festival that is a time for cleansing, symbolised by the throwing of water. Besides the throwing of water, people celebrating Songkran may go to a wat (Buddhist monastery) to pray and give food to monks. They may also cleanse Buddha images from household shrines as well as Buddha images at monasteries by gently pouring water mixed with a Thai fragrance over them. Chiva-Som celebrates this festival on each year in the resort with traditional activities. Typically, guests are immersed in tradition and dance alongside the staff in the Songkran Long Drum Parade followed by a Buddhist merit-making. Of course, no Songkran Day celebration would be complete without guests taking part in the world renowned water throwing activities. It is an event not-to-be-missed and a great way to experience Thai culture.
