GENOMICS

We offer our guests Genomics testing to future-proof your health and personalise even further our recommendation for your optimal wellness. In brief, genomic testing helps you obtain information about your individual health predispositions. It does not diagnose disease.

Genomics is the study and understanding of the genome of a organism, which is, loosely, the combination of the specific DNA sequence of a gene with its environment within the body. While about 99.7 percent of DNA gene sequencing is the same for all humans, it’s the critical 0.3% that makes us individual and gives us our specific attributes such as appearance, eye colour, personality traits and susceptibility to disease.

The relationship between this tiny percentage of our genes and how they interact within their environment of the organism within the body, becomes the study of genomics. When these genetic patterns are tested – through a simple saliva test – individuals can get a picture for how these interactions can affect their future health, their current metabolism and their genomic predisposition for disease.

When we know our genomic propensity for disease, we can mitigate against these with lifestyle factors – it’s like an insurance policy, understanding in advance what steps to take to help to prevent certain outcomes later on.

At Zulal we believe in genomic testing as a fast track way to understand our guests’ innate health patterns. The results help us create protocols on a highly individualised basis. The test covers our individual response to many lifestyle factors, such as our diet. We can ascertain, for example how a person metabolises salt or caffeine and how this impacts their genomic expression.

Another example is how a person responds to exercise, whether they are genetically suited to aerobic exercise or weight training or whether they are genetically prone to sports injuries.

The test can also reveal how we sleep – whether we need more or less, whether we sleep and wake early or whether we are a night owl.

Equally we can ascertain how each individual responds to carbohydrates versus fats, how they respond to different medicines in terms of effectiveness and side effects – or whether we have a tendency toward certain diseases – Alzheimers or osteoporosis, for example.

All of this information – and more – can be understood from a saliva test with a company called Circle DNA, who perform the genomic testing. There are different levels and categories of testing with all results given on a scale ranging from normal to higher sensitivity in a vast range of categories from our sensitivity to alcohol and carbohydrates to certain chronic condition to our potential for languages or musical skills.

We help our guests conduct the test which we despatch to Circle DNA for results, which take a few weeks. From here we arrange a video call with you to go over your results and share our ongoing recommendations. We also send you your results.
