A pioneer in global wellness and a leading wellness resort in transforming lifestyles, Chiva-Som reaffirms its commitment to its core philosophy of sustainability in the wellness industry with an array of eco-conscious initiatives that it has extended to its new and upcoming resort in Qatar, Zulal Wellness Resort by Chiva-Som.
Sustainability is at the heart of Chiva-Som's offering, with a holistic wellness approach featuring for the past 26 years at its award-winning flagship resort in Hua Hin, Thailand, and now Zulal Wellness Resort. Guests pursue optimal wellbeing through lifestyle transformations that craft a unified synergy between personal and environmental wellness.
Commenting on the brand's sustainability commitment, Chiva-Som's Chairman and CEO, Krip Rojanastien, said, “Chiva-Som strongly believes in sustainable development, the very foundation of our brand over the last two decades. No matter where we expand globally, starting with Zulal Wellness Resort in Qatar, we will remain firmly committed to sustainability, inspiring our guests to focus on transforming their wellness in a sustainable manner and extending that same care to the environment. Our vision is to nurture a healthy, safe, and vibrant community and grow in the future with a socially responsible and environmentally conscious mindset”.
Outlining its plans to boost local ecosystems, Zulal Wellness Resort has launched its Mangrove Conservation Programme in the north of Qatar to protect local marine life, partnering with the resort developer Msheireb Properties. Guests will have the opportunity to plant mangroves and be part of this initiative. They will also be encouraged to visit the beachfront walkway and Mangrove Education Centre, supporting a commitment to improve air quality and foster a favourable environment for local marine biodiversity.
The Mangrove Conservation Programme is part of Zulal Wellness Resort's overall sustainability policy, combining with other initiatives such as beach cleaning, use of eco-friendly and local products, sustainable operational practices, and a targeted zero-waste approach. Zulal Wellness Resort was recently awarded LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver certification, celebrating its emphasis on sustainability. Zulal will also mainly draw on homegrown and locally sourced produce, and has invested in energy conservation and wastewater treatment technologies.
Zulal Wellness Resort’s architecture is crafted around the concept of biophilic design, an approach that connects indoor spaces more closely to nature through the use of natural materials like gravel and sand – bringing Qatari architecture to the attention of the world. This unique design aims to strengthen the connection of guests to nature in various ways while also reducing stress, heart issues and blood pressure through a focus on overall wellbeing.
Meanwhile, the flagship Chiva-Som in Hua Hin is a member of the United Nations Global Compact, the world’s largest sustainability initiative. The resort actively commits to achieving its Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 and is globally recognised for its environmental practices, having won countless worldwide awards to date. Bloomberg International featured Chiva-Som as one of the 50 Sustainability and Climate Leaders 2020 globally. To further strengthen its commitment towards sustainability locally and globally, the resort hired a Corporate Director of Sustainability & Compliance in 2020.
Chiva-Som and Zulal Wellness Resort’s sustainability initiatives perfectly complement the brand’s holistic health and wellness goals, which foster a lasting transformation of body, mind and spirit.
