Chiva-Som founded the Preserve Hua Hin Group in 2004 to support environmental conservation and community wellbeing. Under the Royal Patronage of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, the initiative brings people together through activities such as carbon-neutral outdoor concerts, marathon races, reforestation projects, and beach clean-ups that promote environmental awareness and community engagement. These initiatives aim to inspire greater understanding of our impact on the planet and encourage responsible stewardship for future generations.
A key highlight is the annual Preserve Hua Hin Full Marathon & Fun Run, held every spring since 2004. The event has grown into one of the region’s most anticipated community gatherings, welcoming more than 8,000 runners from across Thailand and around the world. Designed not only as a sporting event but also as a platform for environmental awareness, the marathon promotes healthy lifestyles while supporting sustainable practices and community engagement. Through responsible event management and participation from residents, visitors, and local organisations, the marathon helps raise awareness of environmental conservation and strengthens connections within the Hua Hin community.
Chiva-Som has also organised the annual Ecosystem Study Camps since 2008 to provide local students with hands-on learning about ecosystems and environmental challenges such as climate change and human-driven environmental degradation. Recognised as Junior Ambassadors, participating students explore the interconnected relationships between plants, animals, and water, through activities such as mangrove reforestation and coastal clean-ups helping them understand both the resilience and fragility of these ecosystems.
With the objective of supporting local artisans while promoting sustainable living and cultural heritage, Chiva-Som partners with the Baan Khao Tao Weaving Community in Hua Hin to create exclusive handwoven tote and amenity bags using traditional techniques. Thoughtfully crafted by local artisans, these reusable pieces are presented to retreat guests as meaningful keepsakes, reflecting Chiva-Som’s commitment to responsible consumption, preserving Thai craftsmanship, and supporting the long-term wellbeing of the local community.
As part of its commitment to supporting local culture and creative communities, Chiva-Som collaborates with Baan Silapin Hua Hin (Hua Hin Artist Village), a vibrant hub for local artists and artisans. Through this partnership, Chiva-Som helps showcase selected artworks by local talents within the retreat and supports initiatives such as exhibitions and charity art auctions that celebrate the region’s creative spirit. By providing a platform for artists to share their work with an international audience, the collaboration contributes to sustaining traditional and contemporary artistic practices while creating meaningful opportunities for local livelihoods. This initiative reflects Chiva-Som’s dedication to nurturing cultural heritage, empowering creative skills, and strengthening its connection with the Hua Hin community.
Held each July in commemoration of International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem, the annual Krailart Niwate Mangrove Ecosystem Preservation Project brings together Chiva-Som colleagues, guests, local school students, and community partners to support the protection and restoration of Hua Hin’s mangrove ecosystems. Through close collaboration with local environmental organizations and community stakeholders, the event encourages collective stewardship of nature while strengthening community engagement in conservation efforts.
Participants work together each year to plant approximately 500 mangrove saplings, helping restore coastal areas that play a vital role in biodiversity conservation, shoreline protection from erosion, and climate change mitigation. Since the initiative began in 2014, more than 12,000 mangrove trees have been planted, contributing to the ongoing restoration of coastal ecosystems.
Beyond environmental restoration, the activity also serves as a hands-on learning platform, fostering scientific understanding of mangrove ecosystems while nurturing environmental awareness and respect for nature among participants of all ages. Through this practical conservation experience, the initiative reflects Chiva-Som’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and the sustainable protection of natural resources.
In commemoration of Global Wellness Day, Chiva-Som has proudly organised its annual Medical Mission in the Pa-La-U community for over 10 consecutive years, reaffirming its commitment to making wellness accessible beyond the resort. This initiative provides free basic health check-ups and medical consultations for underprivileged families, alongside engaging wellness education sessions designed to empower the community with practical knowledge on nutrition, fitness, and personal hygiene. The program also includes interactive wellness activities, live demonstrations, and the distribution of essential medical and hygiene supplies for children and community members. By combining preventive healthcare with education and community engagement, the Medical Mission aims to inspire healthier lifestyles while strengthening long-term wellbeing in the Pa-La-U area. Through this ongoing initiative, Chiva-Som continues to extend its philosophy of holistic wellness to support and uplift local communities.
Held annually in October in partnership with a local school in the Hua Hin Municipality, the Food for Health initiative commemorates World Food Day by promoting the importance of balanced nutrition and healthy food choices among young students and the wider community. The program features engaging sessions and live demonstrations led by Michelin-starred chefs together with chefs from our very own Chiva-Som resort, showcasing simple, affordable, and nutritious food and beverage options that can be easily prepared at home or at school. Through interactive learning and culinary inspiration, the initiative encourages healthier eating habits while empowering the next generation with practical knowledge about nutritious and sustainable food choices.
Launched in September 2025, this sustainability initiative supports indigenous youth and local artisans in the Pa La-U community through vocational learning, cultural preservation, and sustainable livelihood development. In collaboration with Anan School, students and teachers create handcrafted elephant keychains and lemongrass aromatic sachets using traditional Karen (Pgakenyaw) woven textiles, combining heritage craftsmanship with practical skills and income opportunities. To support the program, a THB 40,000 fund was provided for production equipment and student scholarships, enabling hands-on training in weaving, product design, and small-scale production. In its first phase, the project produced 600 handcrafted items, which have been purchased and integrated into resort operations as guest turndown gifts and boutique retail items, helping generate income for participating students and teachers.
In recognition of World Animal Day, Chiva-Som supports wildlife conservation through the development of salt licks within the Pa-La-U forest area, helping to enhance natural habitats for wild animals. Salt licks provide essential minerals that are vital for the health, growth, and reproduction of wildlife, particularly for herbivorous species that rely on natural mineral sources in the forest ecosystem. This initiative contributes to sustainable wildlife management and habitat conservation, supporting biodiversity while strengthening the ecological balance of the Pa-La-U forest.
