Use your time at Chiva-Som to reset your sleep routine, with a sleep support set-up in your room, a series of tests to determine the root causes of your sleep problems, and a holistic programme of lifestyle changes to implement in consultation with our resident naturopath. Sleep is essential for health and wellbeing. Without it, not only is our functioning during the day impaired, but a chronic lack of sleep can increase the risk of mental health disorders, including depression and anxiety, cardiovascular conditions such as high blood pressure, metabolic disorders like obesity and diabetes, and a comprised immune system in general.
You will wear an ApneaLink device one night in the comfort of your room. One of our nurses can help you set up. This will measure the different stages of your sleep, brain activity, heart rate and respiration, with results interpreted by our resident MD.
Our circadian rhythms are governed by two hormones: melatonin and cortisol. Low melatonin levels at night can contribute to insomnia, while low cortisol levels in the day can contribute to feelings of fatigue. Testing these levels, with samples taken four times in one day, can indicate whether your circadian rhythm needs resetting.
Following these tests, you will together with our resident naturopath devise ways to improve your sleep, from healthy pre-sleep rituals, to changes in diet and the addition of supplements. Using your time with us to reset your sleep routine is one of the most beneficial things you can do for your health.
